Default Which cam grind will go with the HD Hydraulic Conversion kit ?

Hello all,

It seems I am priced out of the Andrews Conversion kit, maybe it is a bit much and not needed in my case, so I am going to go with the Harley Hydraulic conversion kit which is a lot cheaper on Ebay.

I wonder which grinds of cams from Andrews will work with this kit ? the same as the stock 00-06 cams ? I know the 37N from Andrews is made for the Andrews conversion kit, but for the Harley kit, I wonder which cam to go with ?.

And now I am not limited to Andrews, so maybe SE Cam as well ? something to give More HP 2000 & UP, my bike is light and I come under 180 fully leathered .

Regards

From the SE line on Ur lighter bike the SE 204's will be a great bolt in, they have a really great loopy idle, and come on around 3k rpm's like a 4 barrel kicking in..

Son had the 204's cam in his 07 Duece and 09 NT and loved them.... He did add the 4* advance gear to start the power around 2.5 rpm's.

Go to the Dyno's for Softails thread and look at all the different builds....

Heres I'll add the,,,,,,,,,, LINK,,,,,
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-softails.html

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OR just look at the THUMBNAIL BElow....

Heres his dyno on his Duece with the 204's, with V&H's BR's 2-2

Be careful to notice that the TQ #'s on the right side is different than the HP on the left side of the sheet... The numbers lines are different from side to side when U look.

They never got below 86#'s of TQ from 2k - 5.2k ..
Now that one heck of an area under the curve........ For just a stg1 and bolt in cams on an otherwise stock 96"er.

Not a 100/100 but a lot of owners would love to have that curve....but lots overlook the 204's because HD makes them...

If youre going with the HD cam plate and tensioners, then any cam slated for 07 and above will work.
For a light load, wither a Woods TW6-6 or a se211 will wake the bike up and both will run better with a BB kit. If you want the motor to last 100k, select a milder cam. How many miles do you already have on it?

The 204's seem to be happier in TC96's and is probably the best selection for a mild cam with some crap in its pocket. The SE203's are better suited in a 88 and will flat come alive with a 95 build. Both are excellent mild cams, depending on the base motor

Thank KK6....

Lot of members... specially those who don't think out of the box don't think the 204's are any good... BUT they will surprise those who install them...

Our master HD wrench loves them in the lighter bikes,, and he also now love the S&S's 551 in the tourers over the SE 255's...

Son traded in his 09 NT for a new Street Glide and did what the MW suggested... those 551's are just plain Awesome under 4500rpm's in a heavier Touring bike they are Awesome,, PS,,,, they will break the tire loose in 2nd an3rd gear......

Now I am getting conflicting reports, some say the Harley Kit does not replace both tensioners ? is this true ? and that is just a ' half solution ', but the descriptions says it changes everything except the cams !.

Any input from those in the know ?

SE hybrid plate replaces both tensioners.but keeps the original Morse rear chain. the one that goes around the cams.
the drive chain is the new roller style.
any of the pre 06 dyna and 07 up cams will work.
so this means you can use any of the early style cams.
here is the deal. if your going to use a set of cams you already have. or a used set for cheap then go with the SE hybrid.if your going to buy brand new cams. then go with the Herko conversion. and N cams.
http://www.flyingwperformance.com/
this is a all Harley 07 up conversion . just like andrews it uses the N cams.
give John a call and see what you think. heck of a nice guy.
he will tell you the same thing...if you are using your same cams or a used set you have around. then hybrid. buying new cams give his kit the node.

It changes both tensioners. It does not change the inner cam chain. Andrews kit and Herkos kit both upgrade cam chains to the newer style. On your 01 something may be different with the SE kit then later years - cant remember exactly what yrs.

Sounds like you are not convinced about the 37 cam as per your last thread. 204's are good with a *4 advance. 203's, 21's, 26's all good in an 88". 37's with the later close are lazy in an 88.

btw - You should post these questions in the engine forum for better responses.

01 uses the morse chain and old sprockets ..if it is MM EFI .which was only on touring modles in 01. so he should be good to go.

204's will be perfect straigh up. they take a good tune though ,to get timing right.if you have a carbed bike without any kind of timing control, use the 26's if you go with the n you will be forced to go andrews anyway because the 204 dont come in N grind.
If you have centerfold pipes ...stay away from the 37's they will work in a 88ci but have to have a good pipe or they fall on there face untill 3300-3500 rpm's.
edit: ok I see your carbed and 2-2 pipes with slip ons's ...26's will work out the best for you.
