Default Fat Boy Storage

Hello, I purchased a 2001 Fat boy in July of this year
The bike has the stock CV carb on it.
i have had several HD's with carb's and have simply shut off the gas tank valve and run the motor until it stops, have not had any issues when get out for spring
Now i am hearing that is not the thing to do, should leave gas on so parts do not dry out.
We reside in the cold state so our bikes rest for appr. 5 months
can i get some advise
Thanks

I'd like to hear about his too, just pickled up a 2003 fatboy and I'm getting ready for the horrible NH winter (thank god for Jamaica every year). I supposedly ruined my buddies Kawasaki when I was younger by putting it away with the gas on...so I'm interested in any input.

I have an 02 Fatbay with a carb and all I do is put some stabilizer in the tank, turn off the gas and run the engine until dry. I also change the oil. Been doing this for about 6 years now and never had a problem. I would be interested in hearing why this is not recommenned.

Now can someone tell me where the leaf bag is on a Fatboy and what you use to clean off your mulching blade?

Man this just got more confusing....

I also live in NH and I have been taking care of mine and my in-laws harleys for over 10 years now and I have never had a problem. Here's what I do:

I make sure there is about a half a tank of gas in the tank and add fuel stabilizer. I used stabil but whichever brand is your preference. I then add a very small amount of dry gas. Before there was so much ethanol the dry gas was not needed but the dry gas helps fight the added effects from the ethanol. Then I run the engine for a few minutes to get the treated gas through the engine. Then I park them in my garage, take out the batteries (garage is not heated), and cover them.
I have done this with both carb and injected motorcycles and I have yet to run into any issues.

In the spring I add a touch a dry gas and fill the rest of the gas tank with fresh gas. Then ride!

P.S. I am NOT a mechanic nor an engine expert. But this has been working for me. My mother-in-law bought a '98 Heritage new in 98 and we have done this every year with no engine problems. Hope this helps.

Screw some studs in those bad boy tires and just keep ridin!

LMAO.....just kidding. I do the gas stabilizer also. I try and ride a few miles after adding the stabilizer to ensure that it makes thru the whole engine.
