Default windshield vs fairing

Given a choice, would you pick a windshield or fairings for your bike? I have a Fat Boy Lo and I like the "naked" look. However my daily commute of 60 miles round trip at highway speeds in Fall's early mornings (0530) creates create the windchill as well as some hand fatigue dealing w/ all the buffeting. Thoughts? How effective are fairings in dealing with the wind? I seem to like the fairing look better than the windshield look. I have a detachable windshield right now but it is too big and I am going to trim it down some. So tomorrow, I am riding with nothing in front of me.

The windshield looks better, but I enjoy the memphis shades detachable batwing on my roadking on long rides and in cooler weather.

Id rather have a fairing. Ive never been on a bike with a windshield but often ride with a fairing. The fairing is great at keeping wind off you.
