Default 2000 Road King

I found a 2000 Road King that has been sitting in a barn, actually a cart barn at a golf course, and only has 3800 miles on it. It has been there for over 5 years, I cranked it and it started right up, ran it down the road and it runs rough of course. The chrome is in a state of disrepair, it needs a lot of work. The owner wants $6000.00 for it, what do you think? The bike appears to have never been wrecked, but it will need a lot of work to bring it back to its glory. I just wondered what you guys thought about the asking price?

Beautiful bike like that sitting unused. What the heck. I'd probably get it and fix it up a little at a time if I really liked it. I would look at it this way though - all that sitting around is abuse, just a different kind of abuse.

Offer him less. Obviously this isnt something thats high on his list. Worst he can say is no then youll have to decide if 6k is worth it. How much do you think it would take to repair?

Is he able to tell you the story behind it, like why its just sitting behind the barn rusting? I assume he has the title to it......

What im getting at is there are lots of variables with this that we dont know.

You might consider asking him if you can take it to a local dealer or indy to have checked over to see what it would cost to get it in riding condition. Everthing else that's cosmetic is your vision.

With so few miles it's almost new.

$6k @ 4,000 mile compared to about $18K to 22K new today. Not sure what they sold for back then. You can dump another $2k cleaning it up replacing corroded items and reconditioning it.

What would that bike sell for today in A-1 condition?

Wish I'd found that deal back in the early summer!

I could be happy with it!

$6k might be good, but it depends on how you define "wrecked." You might be buying a lot of scrap for that kind of dough.

I bought a new 2000 FLHRCI, cost was $18k out the door, no sales tax in Oregon. When I bought it I thought it was whiz-bang, it now looks simple compared to what is selling today. I clicked 84,000 miles this summer.

Sodit,
Attach some pictures of the bike - curious to see the condition before the restoration.
