$600 to install risers???!!!
Happened to be at the dealer today, told him I wanted to install 4" curved risers on my '06 Softail FLST/I. He said most of the cables would have to be replaced and it would end up costing around $600!
He said it was one of the most expensive jobs they did. I've put risers on other bikes before and it sure as hell didn't cost that much, especially when I did it myself. Just not sure I can do it with this bike, my first Harley, don't want to screw it up.
Any ideas guys?

I just changed the Risers and Bars on my Heritage to 16" Apes and had to replace all the cables. It's not an easy job.
Having said that, if you think you can do it, get yourself a Service Manual and give it a shot, you'll learn a lot about your bike in the process.

What size are the stock risers? If the cables do have to be replaced, it will be costly, but I wouldn't think it would be that much. If you figure 100 for the risers, 300 for cables, that only leaves about 200 for labor. If you consider the parts at dealership prices and their labor charges, 600 may be about right.

Either you cut/solder/shrinktube each one of them or complete dis-assembley, either way it is a major PITA and I would not do it unless I am changing the bars as well.
If that includes risers and all new cables it's not a bad price.
You may be able to get away with just replacing 1 or 2 cables. Some used risers and oem cables would get you off cheap.
You could get a fair idea which cables need replacing by taking your top clamp off and lifting your bars to the new riser position. Gotta make sure there's enough slack to turn the bars full left and right.
The clutch cable would be the hardest one to do imo because it's likely you'll have to drop your exhaust.
Swapping the risers or bars isn't a highly technical job and anyone with basic skills and tools can do it. I'm proof of that.
If you're going to do all that work you may want to consider getting some new bars. You could get some chubbies and chromite cables for less than you're paying them to put risers on.

I know you want risers, but I just thinking out loud... If you're gonna be spending that kind of money I would look in to getting the bars you really want now... it would be a shame to spend money on cables and then have to get new ones later even if it means saving up a little longer for them.
