Default Custom Leather Bags

Just spoke with Leatherworks out of Stockton Ca. about making custom leather bags. They charge ~$600 for this if the bag is not too complicated. This would be for a bag larger then the 120 I currently have. After looking for a long time at bags, the best bags imo seems to be a mix of several bags. Has anyone gone this direction? The price seems very fair.

Leatherworks makes great stuff. That being said, I am going to check out Hog Deluxe's setup this Friday. he was explaining to me some of the differences that might not be noticed by most people, but make their bags above and beyond. I am an impartial party at this point in time. Boss Bags makes really nice bags as well, but I have no first hand experience with any of these bags on my bike.

I've read so many good comments about both -- Boss Bags and Hog Deluxe bags. They have also been HDF advertisers and deserve the business of its readership. I know that they work real hard at satisfying their customers. But I sure would like to read a review from someone who has tried them both, rather than the usual one person raving about the quality of one or the other. Just sayin'.

I have the Leatherworks solo bag right now and might be getting some Hog Deluxe saddlebags so it will almost be fair for a comparison although it is not the same style of bag. If I could find a benefactor to provide everything, I could review everything side to side.

Sounds good, let us know.

Will admit, I have Leatherworks bags and have no reservations paying for a custom set made by them. Best bags or not, Leatherworks are extremely nice, well made and cost 75%-100% less then the others. Another way to look at it is, I can get high quality custom bags that will actually fit and flow to the bike, and cost hundreds less then an off the shelf bag that does not look quite right to me.

Was looking into Road King bags but that shape is not quite right either for my bike. And found a steal of a deal on used FL hard bags locally this past weekend. If they were a couple inches taller, and not narrower at the bottom then the top, I may have gone for it. Not into using filler strips to compensate for the shape of a bag and gap.

Leatherworks is a 2hr ride from my house. Personally meeting with the owner, designing the bags together, is a huge advantage.

If you get new ones what do you plan on doing with your 120's? I might be interested in buying them from you if you think you will want to get rid of them.

Have you checked out Iron Bags yet?
Very heavy leather, extremely well made, lots of choices and different colors available.

If I decide to drop coin on custom bags the 120's will go up for sale.

I like that they make a larger and taller bags. One bag is almost 15"s tall. One shape I am considering would be similar to the Road King leather bags but taller, a little wider and shaped slightly different to fit the softail frame. This would provide more storage space and hopefully flow with the bike. This style bag and hard bags have a sleeker look to them then most bags imo.
