I'm working on the same issue, but I'm fabing my own parts. I have no experience in this, and have no idea what I'm doing. I don't know how to weld, but I created this part.
I'm not happy with it and will try again tomorrow. I guess we're all working toward the same end.
I like your idea, woodworking1! Yeah, putting all the weight of the jockey shift arm on the shifter shaft seems that it will stress it. I agree. A solid point on the bike (the unused horn mount bracket) will take stress off the shifter shaft. I'm missing the jockey that I had on a prvious bike and want to get one going for Bandit (an XL1200C).
The shifter arm on my old V-Star was welded onto a shift lever coupler. But it worked great for quite awhile.
