Default Another pipe baffle question

I know there is probably an exhaust forum here somewhere, but it doesn't look like there is much traffic on the specialty DIY forums, so I wanted to ask more people.

I got some baffles to try in my Samson pipes. This style:

The big end is a little loose inside the pipe - not 1/4 inch or anything, but loose enough that it isn't touching all the way around. Is it supposed to be loose? Does it matter? Any installation advice?

Before you put the baffle in wrap it with this Silica Fabric from www.mcmaster.com/#8799k3/=a3m8sr It not only takes the rattle out of the baffle, it tunes it to a deep throaty sound. About $10 delivered

Or use a nut and.or washers in between the pipe and the exhaust so it sets tight. If it is loose it will rattle...If it is held in tight it will be fine.

That's the same one I used in my fishtails..... I was able to just tighten it up using the nut.. It didn't need to be touching all around.

Nice thing about those is that you can play with them. I started out with the whole baffle. Too quiet. I cut it in half... Better, but still not there. So I took a 1/2" rod and banged it down through so that the fins opened up a bit... Still provided plenty of baffle and back pressure, but gave a great sound.... a little rasp, but not obnoxious.

Thanks to everybody for the responses.

I'll probably wrap the baffles. I was thinking I could keep them in for going to work, but occasionally pop them out for going to a motorcycle event.
