Since they are calling for 16 + inches of snow later this week, I decided to take her out for a ride around the hood. I went up and down the street about 4 times with the new shield on. About 1 mile each way - never got above 40 mph. First thing that I noticed was that my suspicisons were correct. My line of vision was through the top 1/4 of the shield. I have never looked through a shield while riding - always over. Felt very odd to me. On one pass, I happened to follow my neighbor back towards the house, at a normal safe driving distance, and his entire truck was under my shield.

I could feel light air on the top of my head. No air on my gloves or up my sleeves, and generally felt very comfortable. I just assumed that it was similar to the stock shield and decided that I was not a fan at looking through the shield.

I came back and decided to change it back to stock. Got it switched out and took it for one more spin. Boy what a difference. My hands were cold immediately and I could feel air going up my sleeves. There was much more wind on my face. I was chilled to the bone when I got back - never felt cold with the Klock Werks.

Now I am confused. I kept the stock shield on when I put the bike back up, but I am not sure what to do. I definitely think that the Klock Werks is the way to go in cold weather, so I might keep it for that reason. I took a 500 mile trip this past October on days that started out in the low 40's. Once the chill got into my bones, I still felt it when it got closer to the 70's. I am just not sure if I can get used to looking through a shield, so I will keep the stock for summer.

I have attached some pictures of my stock shield on top of the Klock Werks so you can get an idea of the difference in size.

Hope this helps.
What size was your stock windshield?

Have you had a chance to try the shield out anymore?

I'm curious if I can ride with no strap on my glasses with this shield.

I don't like looking through a shield when I ride so I understand your dislike of it. The Klockwerks shield is much bigger than the stock one. Do they offer one a bit lower? I am looking for one other than the stock W/S that will lower the wind noise level if possible.

Been riding a bit with the Klock Werks, still can't get used to looking through the shield. It isn't exactly warm here yet, so the protection is nice, but I am pretty sure that I am going to switch it back when the weather gets a little better. I think that I am going to try to find some windshield hardware on e-bay so that I can have both ready to switch on and off depending on the weather. I am also looking at getting the Hog Tunes windshield mounted speaker and amp kit, and want to put it on the shield that I will be using most often.

Do you feel as much wind coming up from under the windshield with the klock werks compared to the stock?

Here's the thing. It is hard to compare what is different while you are riding because you can't really ride them back to back. It does make the ride very nice though. I didn't switch back to the old this time, but when I did before I really did notice it - I am just not sure where in noticed it, it is more of an overall impression or feeling. The ride seems much smoother and quieter. You still feel wind but it is not as harsh or blustery. It feels good. As far as wind coming up from under the windshield, I am not sure, because I never really noticed or had a problem with that on either one. I will say that everything in the envelop created by the shield does feel much more calm. You also really notice less wind on your hands and up your sleeves.

Every time I have rode with the new shield has been pretty cold, so it really feels better because of that. I have not gone for much more then 30 minutes with the new shield because of the cold. I don't think that I could have lasted that long with the stock shield. I didn't really dress for it either time, just a leather coat and gloves, hopped on for a quick ride, but it was bearable with the shield on. I don't think that the benefits of the shield will be as noticeable on a nice 75 deg day.

One last note. They talk about the down force created by this shield on the Klock Werks site, so I tried to notice it on this last ride. It is another one of those intangibles. Something does just feel better / smoother, and I am sure that it is because of the down force. I was able to get on it a bit more this time. Giving a sharp twist of the throttle, the front end does not seem to surge up, and again, it just seems to "feel" better.

Well this has gone on and on, and I am not sure if I have made any sense. The bottom line is that riding with this shield feels good, but it is hard to put your finger on why it feels good - it is an overall feeling. Especially in cold weather. I have kept it on for now, but still am not sure about how I feel about looking through the shield. I think that I am going to get so used to how nice it feels to ride with this shield on that I am going to have a tough time switching back to the stock shield. We'll see when the temps start to climb.
