Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and new to the Harley world. I just got my first bike, a 2008 Heritage Softail Classic. It has slip-on aftermarket exhausts and I just had the dealer install the stage one kit and remap the ignition. My question is - what kind of gas mileage can I expect? The specs from Harley are lik 35-54 range. Before I had the stage one installed I was getting mid 30s and now after the same. Most of my riding in freeway - about 70-75 mph. I would think that I should get at least in the 40s? Plus, the computer always tells me after I fill up that my range is only like 175 miles? With a 5 gal tank - I should be able to get at least 200 miles in range - right?
I would appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have. Happy to be a member of this forum!
My 07 Heritage with V&H Big Shot Longs, K&N filter and the V&H Fuel Pak gets 40-45 on the highway. It drops a little if I do mostly city riding. My fuel light comes on consistently when I've got about forty miles worth of riding left. You'll find that the gauges and fuel lights on the bikes are not always very accurate.
I would think you should see 42 - 45 mpg with what you're running. Mine does that with stage one, Rush slip-ons, and PC V. Of course, weight (riding single or double) and the way you ride has a lot to do with all of this. And, where you live can have some effect too. Oxiginated fuel and cooler weather changed the way the ECMs function. Welcome.
My 08 Heritage Classic with V&H Big shots Longs with Smart Partz quiet baffles, K&N filter and remap gets 43 to 47 mpg on hiway at 70. When I fill up, my range routinely indicates 197 miles to empty. I usually fill at 1/4 tank and do the math. I guess that I am not the only one that has a slight distrust of instruments when it comes to either riding or pushing. Maxrdr (a fading LD rider)
My '10 Heritage w/Stage 1 (SEST) slip-ons, & high flow ac averages mid 40s on the highway. I may have hit 48mpg once or twice but nowhere near the rated 54mpg - even before the stage 1.
My '06 Street Bob does only slightly better these days (48mpg). But it use to regularly hit 52mpg on the highway the 1st few years I owned it. Just my 2 cents - the mpg dropped about the time they started selling "10% ethanol" locally.
First 2K or 3K I got about 30 - 35 MPG.After that, pretty consistent 44 MPG. More (48-50 MPG) if Highway Super-Slab at a steady 65 MPH, but a steady 80 MPH+ will drive it down into the high 30's.
