Finally got in spacer from the other generation springer to delete my front fender and im lookin to do it asap..
I work on my 2007 mustang GT doin gears, suspension etc myself so im not worried about physically getting the front wheel off.. i am more worried about what needs done when re-mounting the front wheel with the new spacer...
How tight (lb-ft) do i need to tighten up the whole front wheel assembly.. thread locker? anything special in general?
i'd rather be safe than sry... i searched the forum for a while lookin for a thread or post about front wheel removals but couldnt find one... sry
will post pics when done... i got the headlight re-located low from RSD and i got this spacer to delete the front fender.. yippee! all before X-MAS
I know I might be a little late....
but when I removed my front fender I did not remove the front wheel...
I took a dremel to the front bracket..cut it close... ground it down and then polished it up..
if you look at it you can still see where I cut it...so I rotated back a little...and called it done!
it's more of a cover not really a spacer...does nothing for the front axle
I have had several people look at it and I have to show them where I cut it...

hey cheesecake.. tanks for the response.. i knew there were both routes as an option.. i bought the spacer from the other springer front end to be able to have the fender for an option down the road when goin on a planned Cross-country/state type ride...
i guess no one else who has thier fender deleted did it themselves... ****... im in college.. i dont pay money for installs like this..
so i might be resorting to your method and grinding it down if i cant find the torque specs... or ill just swing thru a Harley Dealership and ask em right quick
brettnbama is correct, it's 60 - 65 ft-lbs, but the service manual recommends to use a new locknut. Part no: 7994
Manual also states to apply a light coat of anti-seize lube to the inside surface of the right side bearing before inserting the axle.
sweet thanks.. ya im swingin thru harley tomorrow.. ill see if they got some spare locknuts there.. thanks for the help.. cant wait to rip his thing off.. hopefully within 24 hrs from now
I don't know about others...but the only issue I have with running no front fender is riding in the rain.... but heck when you ride in the rain your going to get a little wet anyway...
Okay poject is done... Cheesecake.. i went ahad and did what youdid my man and cut that strut up.. so i plan on re-ordering the fender strut and having an option for a front fender fo like long distance rides (cross countr/state) my bike will stay fenderless 96.4% of the time
as for the specs and what was done/needed...
Harley told me 45-50 lb/ft of torque on the axle nut/pinch bolt
15lb/ft of trque to every other bolt/nut in the assembly including the brake/fender support even when fnder is delete brace need to stay
a lil bit of anti-sieze lubricant on the spacer (fabrcated strut) on the inside
and some loc-tite on all the bolts/nuts
job was fun/easy
a for the reasons i didnt use the spacer previously told woul fit .. it needs bored out wayyyyyy more befoe it willever fit.. if ur gonna fender elete on bones justcut the strut and buy a new one.. dont gamble.. its no that hard anyway
and here's the finished project.. lowered headlight and all.. nice early X-MAS
and i had previously cheked (before the job at hand) what harley had the front wheel torqued to initially.. and it was wyyyy over 75 b/ft... so when i retightened i went to 60lb/ft on the axle nut/pinch bolt and some thread locker
