CV Deuce sissy bar sideplates left a gap?

CV Deuce sissy bar sideplates left a gap?
i just put the cycle visions sissy bar sideplates on my deuce, and there is a gap of about 1/16" in the center of each plate between the fender strut and the sideplate. are they not situated correctly? do i need to put spacers the thickness of the sideplates between the struts and frame where they attach under the seat? i loosened, adjusted, seated, and re tightened the struts a few times, but they're both gapped slightly still. the struts are tight on each end to the sideplates, and the bolt in the center is not hitting on the strut and pushing it out. any ideas?
