i have my bike on lifts i want to mount my front fender close to the tire does fender travel with tire when bouncing? i cant tell its on lifts my fender mounts are on legs dont wanna screw up anyone with a stock softail with wide glide check it out for me
i feel so stupid right now.........lol
the fender mounts to the same part as the tire. They move together in relation to the frame, so you should be able to get it to a tight clearance without issue.
What fscallan said... just allow for slight tire growth when the tire is warm.
If it's going to drag on the tire, it will usually happen at the inside arc where you can't see it. Best to tape a fat electric cord or skinny hose to the tire, using that to mock up your fender distance. Then drill new holes or make your current ones eccentric. See pic below of my Night Train (which comes with Wide Glide front end) to see just how tight is possible.
Don't do it!!!
Its more work than its worth and you'll probably be disappointed with the look.
Reason is that the fender is made with an arc in it that matches the tire at the distance it is from the axle.
If you move the fender closer to the tire its going to be close in the center, but farther away at each end.
The best way to get the fender closer all the way around is to either get an aftermarket one or order one from the dealer for an 09 (maybe an 08) and up bike as they are mounted much closer than the 07 and down bikes.
