Usually, if you look at the bars you want on H-D.com, the description will tell you anythin that needs to be done when installing the bars you want.

I am doing the same thing. I'm thinking I read in the HD catolog that they will work, but check it out.

Yeah, I just put some chubby mini-apes on my 06 standard, stock cables are plenty long enough. All I had to buy was the bars, risers and a electrical wiring extension that was about 5 or 6 inches long and cost $15.00 I think.

I never did like the looks of the stock bars although the bike handled well. I LOVE the apes, I didn't think they would change the feel of the bike very much but I was surprised at the difference. They give you a really different riding position that I like much better, more of a chopper feeling. It was worth the money, very happy with the new bars and my bike in general, it runs so sweet!!

I have an '04 FXST.
Did the min-apes...changed the risers to the real short ones.
Didn't have to change the cables or wires just had to adjust the brakeline.
I went to the 4" risers...throttle cables +3....clutch cable still works but pushing it...
will install clutch cable that is either +4 or +6...can't remember.

APES RULE!!!

Another world...makes you kinda krazzzy!!!

Feel like a werwolf AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

You are welcome. I did some shopping around and the non-HD chubbies were around $200-250 and then I got a new HD accessories catalog in the mail in June or July I think and it had the bars I was looking for, the part numbers for the risers and the electrical extension and it stated the stock cables would work. It turned out to be too easy!

The service guys were telling me I had to buy new cables but the catalog showed the stock ones would work and when they did the install it worked just fine. The risers are not as tall as the ones on the wide glide or the softail custom which is probably why the stock cables worked. There is maybe an inch difference between the other two bikes, nothing major. The bars and risers are nice, heavy duty and they ran the wiring internally.

I was going to do it myself because I didn't think it would be too bad but my buddy tried to do apes on his fatboy and it turned out to be a bigger job than he anticipated. Somehow he screwed his wiring up pretty bad and he is a better mechanic than me.

Total cost was $200 for bars/$200 for risers/$15 for wiring extension and $350 for labor. I talked with a couple of custom shops thinking they might be cheaper and they were wanting way more money than the dealer. Dealer turned out to be cheaper on parts and labor which surprised me! I was also surprised at how cheap and light weight the stock bars were. Hope this helps, it was worth the bucks to me.

Rick

I just put on the mini apes from HD yesterday. I used the stock risers. The shorter risers I got from the dealer didn't work do to the fact that there was a left riser in the package for a right, so I ended up with 2 left risers. Stock cables and wiring worked with a lot of adjusting. It'll work until I get the right risers. I think I'm going to go a little higher on the bars too. Maybe 12".
