rear head pipe glowing orange after installing fuelpak
So I installed a Fuelpak, V&H Duals with slip-ons, and Big Sucker on my 2010 Heritage. I set the Fuelpak to the settings that was in the instructions and took it for a short ride, only about 12 or so miles. I ran great! So the next evening (like a kid with a new toy) i went to the garage and started the scoot just to hear the pipes and after about a minute and a half the rear headpipe was starting to glow orange. I realize the rear jug runs hotter than the front and there is no air flow just idling in the garage, but has anyone else had this temp in such a short time? I talked to V&H support and they say this is normal.
its still lean. my rear pipe glowed on my dyna when it was stk. after stg. 1 i tuned it with the tts mastertune it stopped glowing completely!! im not sure about the adj on the fuelpak but with mine i hade to richen up the low speed cells on the mastertune table.
so I sent V&H an email explaining everything I am concerned with. on this issue and the reply i got back was "you have been told correctly. at idle there is no air flow accross the motor and the pipe will glow orange". now I agree that it gets hot do to no air flow. however if its getting that hot in a minute and a half in a garage that is 20 degrees, what is gonna happen when I am sitting at a stop light in the middle of summer for a few minutes? if anyone have a simular setup please let me know if you are having this issue.
Way too lean. I've never seen a pipe glow orange after a few minutes at idle.
Recheck the settings on the fuel pack or remove it and see what happens.
Either way something is not right and I'd be very concerned if it was my bike.
Your lean bro, ive idled my bike 5-10 minutes in 105 degree Texas heat and never had a problem like that. With that said, i ran a power commander 3 on my 08 Fatboy and im running a power commander 5 on my 11 Luxe both tuned by fuel moto, so im pretty sure they tuned them right.
Maybe you have already, but double check all point settings, especially the throttle position (point 19, I think). I installed the FP on my 2005 Heritage Classic 3 years ago and never had any issues at Idle or otherwise. I ride in all types of weather (3 seasons) so the variables are plentiful. I re-programmed the settings when I installed the quiet baffle kit (still not too quiet) and all is well there also. Perhaps V&H would consider swapping the unit out just in case there is an electronic problem.
