From a distance the motor does look very Shovelish. They are really stretching to find their nitch yet failing miserably.
The Blackline is far too modern looking to try to go for the Shovel look on the engine. It would look much better if the engine was all black with the polished fins. JMO
I agree they are going after the new generation of riders.
But if I were designing a new HD model I would buy Id want a road king with a fat springer front end like a road-bones. They could Willie up the existing police road king and it would sell like crazy.
Seriously, I love Willie G but agree that his time has come to step down as design leader. If Harley wants to sell more bikes then they need to offer more basic models and some real custom models too, from the factory! They are putting more emphasis on the Sportster line-up than any other models. They need to evolve more and not just in the engine dept either but the whole R&D and Design dept's.....
TIPN8R ...... +1 .. I thought i was the only voice in the wilderness ...... as i said in earlier posts they ( Harley ) need to get rid of the jobs for the boys and bring in some fresh blood ..... and give the public what they want ...... not what they think they want !

I like it!! but just like all other Harley that are stock, it looks like ****. I think a few mods to it and it could be a bad ****. Really like the tank without the huge dash. Kind of glad they went back to the smaller tire, they definitely handle better with them. I think it will sell. probably outsell the rocker and xbones, just because of the fact that what else are they selling in the softail lineup?
This had to happen.. The Rocker was the last FX softail which is unbelievable.. With it going away now they needed to bring something out.. I still have no idea why they did away with the Nightrain and ST Custom line.. They could have just revamped them a little..
Saw one up close and sat on it at the Motorcycle Show yesterday. Sits very low, even lower than my Nightster. Wasn't to thrilled about it. Seems to be a very skinny bike.
I think it's a good addition to the Dark Custom line. The pricing isn't too far out of line when you look at the Dark Custom line as a whole. It's $500 more than a Fat Bob and $1500 less than a Cross Bones. Looks like an easy step from dyna to softail to me.
2008 Night train MSRP was $15,895.00, looks like Harley has lowered the price by $500 for a comparable product, "The Blackline".
