I want to lift the tank on my 08 Heritage. I want to step out the box some ! Lift the tank 3" on the front and 1" on the rear. The 1" on the rear will place it even with the seat . I have a set on 6" risers to take care of the stock bars from hitting the tank. Aiso a new set of hoses for the lift.
1. Has anyone ever done this before ?
Guys how did the 3" on the front effect your useable gas level and gauge reading?
A 3" lift will reduce your usable fuel capacity by 1/4-1/3 gallon.
The gas gauges on HD's are notoriously bad stock, this will cause you idiot light to come on a bit sooner...better to always use the mileage, with or without a tank lift, to know when you're getting low.
I'll be better able to answer this question after I have run a couple of tanks thru it. I do not have a gas gauge as they are totally unreliable... I go by mileage to reserve (carb bike) then mileage to empty. Until I have a miles traveled figure, I carry a bottle of gas for backup... that way I can run it dry so that I know exactly how far I can go before I am "pushing".
