Default Heritage Locking Saddlebags

Has anyone figured out a way to put a locking machanism on their saddlebags or found something somewhere for sale? Would be nice to be able to lock my bags.

Did you install that or did you have to send the bags to them?

Boss Bags put hasps on mine when I had them put the stiffener kit in. I would never consider any saddlebag secure but the lock prevents ****** and grabs.

If you're just looking for a lock kit check out this site.

There was a guy on E-Bay selling a locking system for soft bags. Might be worth checking into.

In mid 2010 Harley added a bag insert and barrel lock combination for the Heritage. I bought them and highly recommend them. The liner is similar to third market solutions - there is an internal frame as well as a separate piece that glues to the top of the bag. They work as well/better than the third market solutions and they are guaranteed by Harley.

The barrel locks work great and can be keyed to match your ignition key. The combination lets you lock your bags and keeps them looking like new. Best of all the total cost was under $200.

Check it out: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

This is the frame link: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

I bought a couple of 3/8" x 1" long cotter bolts... a couple of big washers to fit them thru... a couple of key rings. To get everything ready for assembly you need to drill a hole thru the cotter bolt at a distance of the thickness of the washer and leather from the inside edge of the cotter bolt end cap... then drill or punch a 3/8" hole in the bag body and flap. Put the cotter bolt thru the washer... then thru the leather of the bag... put the key ring thru the newly drilled hole. Now you can put the flap down and over the cotter bolt and put a small lock thru the end hole of the cotter bolt..... Like it was said before, there is no guaranteed way to keep a thief out of your bags, but this little trick has worked for me for years. In fact I lost my key one time and had to have the lock cut off with a pair of bolt cutters... I now use a combination lock. Have only had to call my wife twice in three years to get reminded what the combination was...LOL

PS... didn't cost more than about $5 to do.

Handy, I like the chit outa your locking system. I just got off midnight shift and have had only two beers. Man you got me all confused, I'm 59 and figured I knew my bolts, never heard of a cotter bolt so I Google images of them holy ****, I got like 54,000 hits from cotter keys to regular carriage bolts and all sorts of stuff in between. AND I,m still in a haze on how to make it work by drilling the hole in the "cotter" bolt. Don't s'pose you could take a top down pic with your lid open could ya? I know I'm a PITA but it's killin me that I can't frigging see it! Sounds great.

If your bags are in good shape and you haven't had a stiffiner kit put in you might as well do it all at once. You won't regret it. www.bossbags.com There turnaround time is really fast too (except maybe right now with Daytona coming up). Give them a call.
