Hey all...I'm new to this forum. Haven't looked around too much but I plan on it. Im gearing up for the riding season here in Orange County NY and looking to put the Roland Sands apes on my 04 Deuce. Any one have pics or comments about how it looks and whether there are a lot of changes I need to make to my bike when changing the bars. Currently I have the Harley Drag bars on my bike. Just looking for a change. Thanks....
Welcome, damn that's a good lookin' bike ya got. Personally I would leave the drags - love em. If you check out the softail picture thread you should get some great ideas. I'm just over in Poughkeepsie if ya need some help.
You goin with the Vintage 12s or the King Ape 16s?? You'll have too swap out your cables and do wire extensions most likely and pick up a shorty set of risers off ebay or something 1 or 1.5 inch. There's a few members running the King Ape and 1 I know of running the Vintage 12 inch bar look in the Ape Hanger **** thread. Good luck. Oh yeah DR Vtwins a good one for a quote on what you'll need.
I do want to go with the 12" vintage. Probably all chrome. I live in Orange County NY tho. So what size cables do you think I need to go with? Risers, Bars and cables are all I need?
I wouldn't go with a riser bigger than 1.5 imo. As far as cables not sure on length. I got a Burly cable kit, comes with all cables and wire extensions. All based on bike and size of bars.
I have been hearing mixed reviews on doing this handlebar switch. Is it going to be an expensive switch? I know the handlebars are around 290.00 not sure on risers or cables. Have to go with braided cables to make her look good. With the cables, I guess I would also have to change the the control cables (turn signals etc.) True? Last time I switched stock bars to drag bars I had Harley do it for me...so not sure on the installment of them. Let me know what you think. I love the looks of the apes but not enough if I have to break the bank to get them. Thanks
You will have to have wire extensions for your controls to go with the cables and brake lines. Risers you can probably snag some stock ones off here for well under $50 or get a new set for anywhere from 50-150 pending what you want.
