Before everyone jumps on me to search the forum, I have been reading everything on here as well as other sites. Everyone talks about their 2 into 1 systems on their modified bikes (cams, big bore kit, etc), sound levels / performance increases with their new mod.
I love the look of 2 into 1 systems (especially like the looks of the D&D Fat Cat) but need some "real world" feedback.
I have a stock 2000 Fatboy (carb) & plan to pretty much keep it that way. No cams, no big bore, etc. I would like to change the stock exhaust over to a 2 into one system like the D&D Fat Cat and would be happy if I gain anything performance wise but I want the exhaust sound to stay near the level of the stock system.
With all that said, is there anyone running a Fat Cat or other 2 into 1 system on your stock TC88B? How much louder is it over the stock system? Last but not least, which baffle are you running?
I was looking at the Fatcat when I was trying to decide on a new exhaust. I wanted a nice gain but not with the noise. Got to check one out at a dealership, sounded nice but was a bit louder than I wanted(they told me it had the quiet baffle in it). I had a installed a HQ95st kit installed on my '02 Heritage and was still running the stock pipes w/Cycle Shack muffles on it. I finally decided to try the SuperTrapp Supermeg on it. Wow! Really picked up the performance with just that change and the sound was very nice. Nice deep tone and not loud. My buddy has the SE slip on's on his Hertage and mine has a deeper tone to it and isn't louder than those for comparision. Very happy with it!
JMO...I think installing a high performance 2-1 exhaust on a stock bike is a waste of money, as you're not using it to it's full potential. That being said, with your stock carb bike, you might have the Stage 1 kit installed and try the SuperMeg...it's a good system, and you have the ability to tune it as you desire.
Vance and Hines and Python (made by VH) are also good choices. Good luck and let us know whatever you decide and how it works for you.
Fatcat sounds like **** on a stock motor, at least on the one that hangs out at our local pub. Dudes got a kazzilion bucks wrapped up in paint and chrome, but the motor is stock 88.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The Fat Cat with the quiet baffle, on a stock engine, isn't really overly loud. I think you'll like the increase in throttle response with the 2 into 1. It makes the bike more fun to ride. Guys who ride with duals just don't understand until they go to a 2 into 1, then they never go back. The Supertrapp is probably the quietest option and a great performer, but the Fat Cat with a quiet baffle isn't obnoxuously loud.
I decided on the Bassani Road Rage from Dr. V-twin, and as soon as the weather gets above 35 I will let you know if it has helped the performace any I really wanted the sound and looks of the 2-1. I also used the 02 IED for a fuel enrichner, AFR is now 14.2

Does that mean its stage 4 or none at all? Other wise your still not using it to its full potential?
I bought the LowCats (w/quiet baffle), because I liked the looks and the sound. Not sure how its sounds on a 88ci engine, but on the 96 it sound good. Low rumble, not too loud and not as quiet as the stock.
