Default To Baffle or Not To Baffle

As some of you know I recently purchased my first bike, A 2002 HD Softail Deuce. Being a new rider and new to HD, I have been lurking around the forum and giving options on subjects I am comfortable with. So here's my question, when I purchased my Deuce, the guy had pulled the baffles. He gave me all the stock parts he had changed over the years and the baffles were included. I love the sound of the bike without the baffles. My wife on the other hand says its to loud. I have not taken it out more then just around the neighborhood by myself since I got it.

1) Is it best to put the baffles back in to make the wife happy and will it make for longer rides alone more enjoyable? Or does it get annoying on long rides and/or cause headaches due to long exposure?

2) What is the procedure for installing and removing the baffles, is it something that could be done easily so if I was planning a long ride with the wife I could put them in easily?

Thanks in advance

What pipes do you currently have on the bike?

Put baffles back in....Notice, I said *baffles*, and not THE baffles. If loud is what you want, check around to see if someone like Big City makes baffles that are louder than your stock ones. Baffles are there for a reason- not having them kills your bottom end tq.

I was asking what pipes you had because I have the V&H BSL and I took my pipes off in order to take their standard baffles... It took me a bit cause they were a little stuck in there... After soaking them with wd40 i was able to pull them out, then I drilled new holes on the pipes (at a place where I can get to without removing the exhaust, about 9 inches into the pipes, BCT recommends at least 6 inches from the end of the pipes) so I have quick access to it in case I need to take them off for any reason (this is a little trick I learned around here on this forum). I really like the sound of the Big City Thunder Original Baffles. They are deeper and louder than the stock V&H Baffles (cheese gradder looking thing). Hope this helps!

Im not sure what brand the pipes are, I do know they are not stock as I also have a stock set of pipes in one of the boxes. I will have to look at them when I get home to determine the manufacturer.

You might need to take them off to put the baffles in depending on the pipes....

Running no baffles currently myself. I can always add them later if need be. My vote is go baffle less.

I ran my old bike without baffles because I wanted a better sounding bike. But lost a lot of torque. Plus I thought it was too loud. I'm currently running Big City Thunder baffles on my Night Train and love them. Much better sound than the stock baffles with no loss in performance. Get lots of compliments
