I have an 87 heritage softail that I re-wired. I reinstalled the tanks, and turned it over and everything was sounding good, then my battery died from turning it over so much(old battery). I hooked a battery charger to it to try and just get the bike to fire up. While I was turning it over with the charger hooked up, I heard a faint pop noise, not sure where from, and now everything is dead, no lights or anything. I have power where the battery cable hooks to the solenoid, also have power on both post of the 30amp main breaker which has a tan wire that runs to the ignition switch, no power there though. I'm pretty bummed, the bike was a gift that needed some work, and I have never tackled something like this before and thought all was going well, now I have no idea where to begin, any help would be great. Thanks
If you mean by using a test light yes I know how, I have checked the tan wire at the cb by the back wheel, lights up, checked it on the ignition switch I believe on the A post or connection according to the wire schematic, and nothing, in the morning i plan on removing the tanks again and looking for a burnt or melted wire, and anything else anyone could think may be the problem.
Ok, I have tightened the nuts on the main circuit breaker, and lights came on, but went on and off. When I wiggle the ignition switch they come on and off so I called Harley to price a new switch and they said they no longer carry them that they are obsolete. Searching online now for a new switch, hopefully that fixes my problem. Also does anyone know what battery is required for a 87 heritage? How many cold cranking amps?
