Default 2011 Cross Bones with Samson exhaust

When I ordered these pipes for my new bike two weeks ago I got a call from the dealer saying that nine different mechanics said not to run the exhaust with no baffles. I had told them I want it without them but they all said the bike would run wrong. So they have the baffles in them. My buddy said they are full of feathers that it would be fine. Does anyone have my exhaust with no baffles? And if so how does she run ? Any problems with them? Is it tough to take the baffles out myself?

If you take the baffles out you will lose bottom end torque ... You could replace the Samson baffles with the Big City Thunder baffles ... you keep the torque and the pipes will be louder. (Will probably sound better than running without baffles too)

I ran very similar pipes without baffles for a bit last year and the power was non existent. I actually put baffles in them, it was so bad. they were Ultima's, not Samson's but they looked almost exactly the same.

Baffles for sure.

Hey Bullbutch, I'm a new bones owner(3 days at this point)and I really like the look of those pipes. What did you end up doing, baffles or not? Also how do they sound and did you notice any increase or decrease in performance with your "seat of the pants" dyno
? Thanks for any info.

you are going to want to run baffles with pipes like those. The guys running the fishtails can get away with no baffles because the tips give them back some back pressure....

Default Samson's with or without baffles.

Samson makes the best pipes available. People complain about bluing issues. Whenever you take it upon yourself to change pipes on a bike you've also taken on a responsibility to make the necessary changes to the air-fuel mix. You're changing the parameters that were set using stock and restrictive exhaust. Samson, Vance and Hines, Bassani and all other manufacturers can't be blamed because someone didn't complete their job. I've never had bluing issues and I've ran Samson's on all of my Harley's. I've even run the set you currently have on my '89 Softail Springer.

I'm off of my soapbox now and I'll speak in reference to your baffling question. You WILL lose significant torque by removing the baffles. This is true even with the addition of torque cones. These help get back a little of the torque, but very little. This is based off of both driving and from dynoing the bike before and after. I'm currently running Samson Hellraisers on my 2000 Heritage. The idle without baffles is a good bit louder without the baffles. However, once you're on the street and twisting it up, it's not as noticeable. Also, when running without baffles you'll get a pronounced bark when shifting gears. I think the irritation this causes isn't worth the performance loss and the few extra db's of sound. This goes away when the baffles are put back in. The bike has a more "tuned" sound with the baffles in and they still are quite loud and have the best sound available with aftermarket performance pipes.
