Look in the service manual and there is a test you can do on the stator to see if it is working. Sounds more like that to me. All you need is a volt meter. I don't remember what the voltage is supposed to be right now. If you don't have a service manual, maybe someone will explain the test or I can lookit up later and explain it. Good luck.

Make sure the plug connections are tight in the voltage regulator.

Sounds like a stator problem... not recharging the battery when the bike is running. Everything is running off the battery... lights, etc.

You need to check the voltage should be 14.5 give or take a couple tenths of a volt. If not unplug the stator which comes out of the ft of the inner primary housing put the volt meter across the two terminals and when you rev it up a little you should see voltage increase like from 10-20 to past 40 and above depends on how much rpm you have. if there is no voltage or little change then you need a ststor if there is the voltage regulater is bad. when you test at the battery it is in DC the stator will be read in AC
