hey i was told today that the new 2011 fatboys (ecm?) will auto adjust to the stage 1 air cleaner and pipes .... is this true ? if so how and can i use any set of pipes?
Not true. I added pipes with no baffles and my air fuel was running way too rich. So I got an air cleaner and tuner.
Depending on exhaust you should be able to change that out without doing anything. If you add the air cleaner you will need to have it tuned and possibly a tuner.
Who told you that?? When you get the Stage I air cleaner assy. it says in the instructions that you must have the ECM re-programmed. If that was the dealer, find a new shop. Or at least talk to someone that has a clue. The ECM will adjust for an exhaust change because that doesn't alter the air flow through the intake enough to make it an issue. But when you change the intake system, you will lean out the mixture so much that the ECM can't compensate for it and must be flashed with the Stage I map.
I was just typing this question when I read this thread.
So this means I can put my Vance and Hines Big Shots on my Deluxe, and ride my bike for a couple of weeks w/o a High Flow filter. Then when I get paid on the first, I can buy the High Flow and download. Right?

Yup. You should be good to go with that plan. It'll still run a little hot and lean until you put the air and fuel control on it (it came from the factory that way), but at least you'll get good sound from those new pipes!

That rumor has been flying lately.. and until i see a release from the MoCo saying I don't need my Power Commander V anymore, i wouldn't believe it.
