Default Fuel Guage Removal - IT'S STUCK...

I have a 2000 FatBoy, and I'm removing the fuel gauge and fuel sending unit b/c I'm selling my tank and fenders. For the life of me, I can't get the fuel gauge out - rocking it and lifting does not work. Slight 1/8" turn does not work. This gauge is like the Excalibur sword.

I took it up to AD Farrow... After some trying, the tech said I should try WD40 and see if it will pop out after some soaking. It has been overnight and half a day so far, and no luck. It just seems to me there's got to be a better method to just simply "pulling up gently" like the service manual says.

Anyone else have a SANE recommendation? All I really need out of this tank is the fuel sending unit for my other set, and I'll buy a another fuel gauge and cap...

On the left side you need what is called a dummy cap...RSD has some nice sets. I went with flush mounts and meter gas by milage

If they need to do some more R&D let me know. I have a question about the miles remaining counter also. Will it still work if I replace the stock gauge with one of those RSD ones that just has a low fuel indicator light?

Default Fuel Gauge Removal

For those that may follow this thread later, I was able to make a handle to pull up on the gauge using duct tape by attaching two sides to the base of the gauge. I took a second piece to wrap it around the base of the gauge and handle. It was really stuck, but eventually, it rocked back and forth enough for it to pop loose. The part that is most secure is the closest to the center of the tank.

I'm now in process of removing the fuel sender whereas that float is not wanting to to come out of its shell. Seems like it grew once it got in there.
