Just to let you guys know, when you remove your gas gauge(that cheap looking piece of sh*t that is basically useless) your miles til runout feature on the console will NOT work. I listened to someone on the forum in another thread and they stated that it will work. Also the low fuel icon remains on. Now this doesn't bother me, it just convinced me to get that new speedo, tach, fuel gauge combo that seems to be the craze. I had to replace the gas cap and gauge. They seem so cheezy.

If you get the new speedo/tach combo, it still wont work, trust me. Neither will the fuel gauge on the speedo/tach.
The wiring requires the resistance that comes off the stock gauge, or a suitable replacement (like the one from the flush mount kit.)

and surprisingly enough my gas gauge is fairly accurate.. not 100% naturally, but when i estimate i've used 3/4 tank based on mileage, the gauge shows only 1/4 left.. hasn't been horrid so far. anyways..yeah.. resistance is futile.

So what's the sense of getting the new speedo if you still need the old gauge? Wow I was unaware of that. The old plug is still there. I wonder if something could be done.

A tachometer, a gear indicator, and the ability to choose from dozens of zippy colors. Really it comes down to that, I tried to get an inexpensive replacement flush mount dummy insert for the gauge and a flush mount cap from Drag, but this is what I ran in to. Plus the gas cap wouldn't fit and the dummy gauge insert wasn't flush enough, so now I have a black flush mount gas cap/LED gauge kit on order.

I read about your troubles in another thread. So what you're saying is the old gas gauge must be connected for the new separate speedo to work. I still say there might be a way around this. This is what pisses me off about Harley. Seems like everything is designed half assed. You can't pull the wires through the hole after disconnecting the plug for the gauge. So you cut them and then you run into more problems.
