Easiest way to check for mileage is to 0 out the tripometer when you put in gas. The next time you fill up just divide the number of gallons you put in the tank into the mileage on your tripometer. It makes no difference how much gas you put in. Then 0 your tripometer again and do the same the next time.
Just bought a 2002 Deuce. Has Python 3 pipes, screaming eagle air kit, with knn, and I'm getting about 32.6 every time, I ride the hell out of it, but it gets the same even when I'm easy on it. I dont know if th prev owner jetted the carb when he put the pipes on it or not, or if it makes a diff on an HD, I know my old v-star 1100 had to be jetted for every adjustment or it ran like crap. Any suggestions?
1. Fill tank to top
2. Set trip meter to 0
3. Drive till you need to refill
4. Fill tank to exact same level as previous fill
5. Note on gas pump exactly how much gas was added.
6. Divide number on trip meter by the number of gallons added when you re-filled.
As long as you fill the tank to the same level, the amount of gas you add back in on the refill
is the exact same amount that you used.
The exact amount you used will be on the pump after you fill up.
The exact number of miles you traveled will be on the trip meter.
The rest is simple math.

As for the lower MPG's on the freeway, I get those as well... When the throttle is wide open!!! On group rides, much higher 50+. I would like to hear from those with Cams etc?
Generally get around 45 mpg, sometimes up to 50 mpgon my '05 Heritage(17K miles)and previously got the same on my '04 Road King. Both bikes have had the Stage II Big Bore kits(95") with 203 cams and V&H Longshots/Oval Slip-ons. Maybe the bigger engines can run more efficiently than bikes with the 88" do.
43-45mpg with Stage 1, AC, and V&H Straightshots. By the way when you're filling up to check mileage don't go by the fuel gauge. Fill the tank to the same spot everytime, usually that means full - lol. The fuel gauges aren't worth the &hit they're made of. Rely on the tripmeter.
