[quote=Soft422;8258658]This poster makes a very good point...about voiding the warranty. I have a read a number of posts recently where people are buying used products on E-Bay, and bragging about how much money they save. I have an '08 Heritage and when I did my Stage I and Stage II Big Bore, it was all done at an authorized HD dealer, by certified and trained HD technicians and ONLY HD products were used. This way, I did not void the warranty and I have been very happy with the work and performance. Now, if you have a used bike and/or it's not under warranty, then by all means, go aftermarket or save a few pennies on E-Bay. If you do the latter, make sure you come back and post how "little" you paid for your parts...we are all dying to know. [/quote
hey So you did a stage II 96 moved it up to a 103 right, so for me ( I did a stage I, which the dealer told me is basically a set of slip ons, new air intake system and flashing my computer) does that sound like what you did for "stage I" then stage II consisted of what exactly? I have been trying to find this online somewhere, but all I get is advertisments or things that are un-helpful. The way I understand it is, stage II they put in new cams, pistons. That is about all I am getting out of this. and just to make sure I have a stock 103, so I would need the 110 big bore kit right?

You're fooling yourself about the warranty issues - do the research and you'll see that non-HD parts do NOT void a warranty in and of themselves, and using HD parts to mod your bike does NOT guarantee that your warranty will be honored should you have issues caused by those mods. Plain and simple.

The consideration going to 110, or beyond, if you plan to upgrade your current engine, is that the bottom end will have to be opened up, the crank will have to be worked, and you'll have to have your cases bored to accommodate the larger jugs. If you stay at 107 and below, you can likely avoid having to get into the bottom end, which saves a ton of money.

In case you haven't heard it yet... there is no replacement for displacement. Bigger is better... plenty of great information on the sites should you choose to do your homework. In short, the HD v-twin is a giant air pump, and the more you can move through it the better the performance will be.

Given that you *think* you have a 95", either you've got an older bike or aren't familiar enough with what you have yet to make an educated decision. Best bet is to pick a reputable builder, tell them what you want to achieve and what your budget is, and have them spec out and set up your solution. You'll be happy with the results, and you'll be able to enjoy it instead of having to wrench on it continuously, or lament the decisions you did or didn't make.

I'd suggest making a call to Hillside and talk with Scott - many here can vouch for their work, including myself.

Good luck!
Roger

I verified this with my dealer before deciding on SE stage 3.
I was told that HD warranty will be voided by installing SE components that says race application only.( only if the damage is done by se components.)
And as soon the bike is out of their dealership there is no warranty on SE stage kits. ( bit unuasual but thts what I was told)

Educate yourself - please... don't just take their word for it, as there is far more to the issue than they are going to lead you (or want you) to believe:

this thread was a year old, btw...

but since it's resurrected.. there is no warranty on the 120R engine, even if the dealer installs it for you, that's labelled everywhere. and no, your warranty will only be voided if the aftermarket product is the CAUSE of the failure (i.e. a PCV pumps too much fuel in to the engine and causes it to explode or something)

I did a 103 Stage 3 kit and was told by the dealer it would void my waranty as well. If you do the 103 Stage 2 BB kit, it will not void the waranty. If I had it to do over I would definitely go with something aftermarket and not the SE kits. I would look at Hillside, Fuel Moto, T-man and there are several others. If you plan to spend that kind of money($3700), I think you can get a lot better performance and value from someone besides HD. But as stated above, be careful how large you go because too large could double your costs by having to redo the bottom end.

Bottom line, if I had it to do over I would go with a 106" or 107" build and I am sure I would be very happy. I believe in the laws of diminishing returns.
