Default How do I get a little more slack on the clutch lever? (mid cable adjustment?)

After getting my bike back from the ape install, I noticed that the clutch lever is pretty tight.....as in there is almost no lever play. I'm no expert, but if I recall correctly, there should be play.....correct? It squeezes easy an it starts to grab about 1-1.5" off of the grip. If all this seems normal, just let me know....I just remember thinking I have to push the lever forward to get it to extend all of the way, now it does it on its own. I have magnum cables, can I adjust the mid-cable adjuster....if so, how do you do it?

Loosen the lock nut, turn the adjuster in until you have about 1/8" between the perch and the lever (should swing 3/8" or more at the lever ball), tighten lock nut.

Jeez, nobody should be shocked that they mangled your chrome. They can't adjust a clutch cable properly?

I'm not at home, all I remember is there is threads showing on the adjuster....there is a lock nut on it? Pardon my stupidity, I just want to know I'm doing it correctly! Is there any pics or anything?

Thanks!

Yes, the cables have a lock nut, magnums lock nuts and adjusters don't have a hex head though, they will be round with two flat sides for wrenches.

You'll want to turn it up toward the lock nut, effectively shortening the housing in relation to the cable. Try a couple of turns and check your freeplay. If you turn it the wrong way you will lose all feeplay, so then go the other way. Pull the clutch in a couple of times to make sure the ***** are seated in the ramps in the end cover.

The adjuster should be underneath an accordian rubber cover near the left down tube. The lock nut should be 9/16" and both ends of the cable are 1/2". Using a pair of wrenches crack the lock nut loose (righty-tighty/lefty-loosey). As previously mentioned turn the lock nut a few turns to allow the female end of the adjust some room to move. Since you don't have enough free play, turn the male end clockwise a thread or two and check your free play. When you've got about an 1/8" between the lever and perch you're probably good. I tend to get the amont of free play I want plus about 1/16 of a turn extra to allow for a little movement when tightening the lock nut. With a new cable this will be a piece of cake.
