I have a question about Samson true duals, hope one of you guys have run across it before.
I called Samson and asked them but the woman they transferred me to was not very helpful. (or overly nice for that matter)
The question, what is the main changes in the newer (07-current) true duals and the older ones? (00-06) I had been told that the different was just the O2 sensor bungs. I was told the newer styles (and part numbers) have the bungs for the sensor, the ones for the pre-07's are the same but do not have the 02 sensor bung.
I have no idea if that is true but when I called to ask Samson I was told they are different pipes, the "way the rear is bent is not the same." I did not get a straight answer about the bungs. (bungs on the 07- newer, like the "S2-" model numbers and not on the older bikes like the "S-" part number?) Seems the ones with "S2-" part numbers would be the same and the "2" might stand for the ones with 02 sensors, hence the "2" in the part number?
I was told by the woman at Samson that the ones for newer style bikes will "work" and people modify them to work but that Samson does not recommend that. That is about all I got, no answer on how they are different. (mounts different? how/why the bends are different? etc?)
Anyone here had experience with this? Are the ones for newer bikes the same as the old ones just with a bung? Totally different?
IE- is a S2-431 the same as a S-431 just with an 02 sensor bung? And if it is, they are interchangeable if you put a plug in the hole.
the S2-431 and just the S-431 are different pipes for different years. when harley went to the unit construction engine and transmission in 07 and later we had to make a new set of pipes to fit the new softails. so the S2, where the 2 designates an O2 sensor pipe only for the newer 07 and later bikes. they are not interchangeable with the 95-06 true dual crossover systems for softails. the rear pipes do not interchange and the pipes should be ordered for your year bike. when looking at the pipes they do look the same but they are not. the S models fit from 95-06 and the S2 models fit from 07 up. i hope this helps.
thank you,
JR

I have the Samson S2-433 ( 07-up ) exhaust installed on my 05 softail. I bought these instead of the S-433 because they were on sale for 150.00 less. I plugged the O2 ports and they bolted right up with no problems.

It would seem that the older pipes will not work on the newer bikes but the newer pipes do work on the older bikes. Don't forget, Dr. V-twin is your number 1 Samson connection.
