first i just want to say thanks for all those answering my dumb questions. i am looking to buy a harley. i have a few models in mind, but have not made a firm decision which one yet (although i think i am getting close).
anyway, what are the differences between the 06 fatboy and 06 heritage?
The wheels are the main difference in my opinion, and I suppose the front fenders are a bit different. I'm not sure there is much else that is different, but I could be wrong. I got a Fatboy because I like the solid rims. I couldn't imagine trying to clean those gosh darn spokes. hate em too.
For new bikes, the Heritage comes with full FL front fender and lights on both fenders, windsheild, large bags, lower staggered exhaust vs shotgun style on the fatboy (that won't allow large bags without swapping exhaust). Heritage also comes with a full lightbar upfront with passing lamps and turn signals on the lightbar vs. single headlight and signals on the handlebars on the fatboy. Spokes vs solid fatboy wheels. Hard mounted sissybar with backrest, and more tour-capable seat. Heritage handlebars are also more like mini-apes, verses low-slung fatboy bars (notice my fatboy currently has heritage bars.. more comfortable).
Forget about the different parts. The biggest differenc is how they fill while you are riding it. You really need to check em out first by riding. Borrow, rent, whatever. To me the fat boy is a dream to ride while the heritage sucked. [8D]
vaxination - are you talking about a Heritage or Heritage Classic? If you are speaking of the Classic what Babs says is true, many more options on the Classic. If you are talking of the Heritage, this was a 1 year model only made in 06. I looked at the Heritage when I bought my bike this summer.
While the Heritage is a nice bike the Fatboy has a few subtle differences that I found I wanted. There is a little more chrome on the Fat Boy, the Fatboy seat is of nicer leather. The engine is Black and Chrome on the Fat Boy where as the Heritage is silver. The oil tank on the Fatboy is Chrome while the Heritage is painted black. The handle bars on the Fat Boy are a little wider. The Fat Boy rear signals are on the fender struts on the Heritage they are by the rear tail light. The Heritage has a quick release passenger pillon which is something I wish the Fat Boy had.
Most of the diffences are very subtle but these are what I found when comparing the 2 bikes. Other than those differences listed above the Heritage has the maschette paint scheme on the tank fashoined after the Heritage of the 60's (I think it was the 60's).

thanks guys (and gals?)... that was very helpful. the heritage was not the classic. it was, as you stated, the 06 heritage. they are both very nice bikes. the more i research i do for my "H.A.S." (harley acquisition syndrome), the more questions come up. its cool, tho, cuz the journey to the purchase is fun!
Ride and look at both bikes. Buy the one that grabs you. This is the one IMO the one you should buy. Price should not matter since they are so close the difference in the big picture is not an issue. Last thing you want is to wonder "what if". Both are great bikes, but are surely different in their own ways. I wish I were checking out new bikes and trying to decide.... what a great time! Good luck....
