Default Security code

Hi,

I have a 2001 Fatboy with the button fob. How do I find out or modify the existing code? I looked in the owners manual but despite being educated I am confused. Could it be that I am not as smart as I think I am? LOL..Thanks for any help

Its Terribly Confusing for me too...

I was up at Target a couple years ago , came out and my alarm wouldnt "un-arm" , so i assumed it was the key fobs battery since it was even trying to unlock... went back in and bought a battery and changed it... Simple huh...
Not.... Ive read since then when you change the battery you have to re-program the code (someone chime in if Im incorrect) ...
I was stuck up there for like 3 hours, not only was it hot & frustrating it was embarrasing,
i had my owners manual brought up to me and read and re-read, tried and re-tried till i was about ready to scream... finally i called my neighbor (he is smart and a mechanic) who came up there and helped me, he read thru the manual a few times, it took him about 15 minutes to get it figured out and I was on my way... He isnt even a motorcycle guy...

I havent used my key fob/alarm since...

Good Luck Guys !

I know it can be done if you just follow the instructions...lol...

The manual ,is a little short on how to get into the security mode.
like it says to press both turn signals to get the security light flashing.

on my 03 fatboy , you have to wait until the security lights stop flashing , (about 30 seconds) and then depress both turn signal buttons at once ..viola !! into security mode .

took me a long time to figgure this out , and then due to my short term memory problem ,and long term ....lol I am seventy ...
I wrote it down in my manual

Two things here. First is that you NEED a key fob to program a new code, assuming you have one then:
1. Set run switch to OFF, cycle ignition key, ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON and press left turn signal switch twice. Wait for one to three confirmation flashes of the turn signals and then set ignition key switch to OFF.
2. Quickly press keyfob button 2 times and release, You should get one flash of the turn signals

HERE IS WHERE YOU CAN FIND OUT THE CURRENT CODE
3. Press left turn switch 1 time and release, count the flashes of the security light (key) on your dash, this is the first number of five in your code. If you want to change this number you will press the left turn signal switch one time for each digit increment. So assuming you want the first digit of your code to be 3 and the key flashed 1 then you hit the left switch twice. (Digit will display in odometer)
4. Quickly press the key fob twice and turn signals should flash one time
5. Press left turn switch 1 time and release, read code and repeat to modify all 5 digits.

Once you get through all five, Turn ignition to OFF.

Set alarm and try disarming with your code. Remember this is done with the ignition switch in ACC not Run.

I hope this makes sense.

No help but I agree at least on my 04 the setup in the manual and service manual is not very user friendly. First time I set mine I read it and kept messing with it at least two or three time until all of a sudden the dash was reading what it should at the beginning of set up. Then it was no problem. Just set it a simple back an forth using only two numbers. My friend's new one just knows him when he walks up. Just read it for changing the code until its in your head and then try it. Or get your 6 year old grand child to do it for you.

great , that is right out of the manual..didnt work for me .

on my 03 , is doesnt matter if the eng switch is to on , or acc.
also doesnt matter if run switch is on ,or off..

believe me , I tried your "manual way several times"
You are correct , about the fob , "arm the system
then turn on ing.
wait untill the alrm stops flashing, then push both turn-signals at once ..now you have flashing security icon..
then , and only then can you use the manual to reset the code , or chck it , or what ever you want to do ..

to dis-arm , after setting it on with the fob , turn on ign, wait until security stops , then ebter your code via the turn signal process that is in the manual..

Thanks guy FCSallan you made this as easy as you could. This is worse than drawing a blood gas. As long as I have my Fob I should be alright? and a spare battery? I will pay the dealer to do this next time I am there
