Default Calling all Crossbones owners

Hello out there,I have a question for all of you. I have a 2011 Harley Crosssbones. In the owners manual it states that when you go to start the bike you...
1) turn the ignition to on.
2) push the run switch down. (directly after pushing the run switch down the yellow engine light is suppoosed to light up for approximately 4 seconds.)
3) Once the yellow engine light goes off you can press the start button and start the bike.
My question is. On my bike, the engine light only goes on about half the time and when it does go on it is usually for a split second. Also, it only goes on when I turn the ignition switch and not when I push the run switch down.
The dealer told me that most crossbones work this way and that it is not a problem. I thought I would do my own research and check with you fine people instead of taking there word for it.
How does it work on your bikes ?
Thanks for your help!!

Thanks johnny for quick response, Can you do me a favor and the next time you start your bike follow the steps that I listed in my post and write me back to let me know when the yellow engine light goes on, if it goes on and for how long. Thanks man

When I turn on the ignition, and then push the run switch down, the engine light goes on, the fuel pump starts priming. Fuel pump stops, then engine light goes out a second or 2 later. So yes, to answer your question, the engine light is on a couple of seconds. Always been that way.

Mine is a 2009, Maybe the 2011 models are a bit different due to different ECM and Canbus electrics? What does it say in your owner's manual?

in mine on page 81 "starting the engine" top 2nd column:
Note: The engine lamp will light for approximately 4 second and you will hear the fuel pump purr for approximately 2 seconds as it operates to fill the fuel lines with gasoline."

Who at your dealer told you your bike is normal? The sales guy? service manager? technician?

Anyway, this start up sequence is for all bikes with the EFI, not just for the Xbones ...

My question to the OP is why does it matter. Turn on the ignition, and start the bike.
Light or no light if she starts why does the light make any difference?

The light is the diagnostics of the engine, if it goes out and then goes on again for a couple of secs you know you got an error somewhere.

And if it is supposed to stay on for 4 secs but only occasionally goes on and then immediately goes off ... it is not working as advertised, so there is a problem there, that might get bigger over time .. like bad connection, faulty computer or sensor ... These bikes, and especially the 2011 ones are run by electronics, can't get around them, they have to work properly.

If your engine starts popping and farting on start up, but still runs OK otherwise ... what you gonna do? go to dealer and have it checked or say, it don't matter, bike still runs ... same difference

during the 4 sec the ECM is self checking its self. like has been said if all is good then the light will stay out, just like the car you drive. The basic systems are the same
