Turns out it was the start switch. Strange thing is, that it tested o.k. when I used a multimeter. When I pressed the switch, it read dead short, and when I let go, it read open. Exactly what a pushbutton switch should do. But when I applied power to the switch, that's when the problem appeared.
This switch is sealed and not serviceable, and is attached to the run/kill switch also. The part is listed as the 2 switches plus the harness. So, gonna shop around tomorrow.
Figures, few months after warranty expires, switch fails....go figure.
