Default post trip report...

I just got back from a 7000km run on my heritage. Went from east coast canada down to ashville n.c. and back, with a stop in to laconia. What a trip!! Bike ran good other then maybe a few hot afternoons, but no breakdowns... Kinda made me think that a run that long, with my gf on back, might be better suited for a touring bike (and I'm half considering a trade) but I wouldn't think twice of doing it again tomorrow. My only complaint is that the day after a thunderstorm, my boom windshield mount stereo quit on me.

I know what you mean. I had a Heritage and ran a few long rides 2up and traded last year for a Ultra Limited. No regrets here. Go for it.

Sound's like you had a good trip. Wouldn't cruise be nice on that softail though? That's the only thing I'd like to have on a trip that long. Otherwise the softail is just fine. Think about how you ride the most. That Ultra is a handful around local roads.

Yeah, I agree about the Ultra being a bit much by times. I figure I'd get a road glide if anything, but to be honest, i just don't thing I could part with my softy and can't afford both. Still, for my usual ride to work and the odd weekend road trip, I have all the bike I need. These long trips are a once a year thing, so I'd say I'll just keep it. Might have to go for a set of hard bags though, just for convenience. Oh, and to my surprise, my stereo came back to life, so I think I'll take some sealant to it to tighten it up a little.

A comfy seat like the hd sundowner makes long rides much more enjoyable and is more affordable then another bike. Adding a large contoured back rest for the passenger is also a huge plus. Found both items used and well worth the price imo. Have also been thinking about a touring bike, decided on the couch direction for long rides. At least for now.. lol

Sounds like you had a good run. Ain't nothin like being on the road for a few days, or weeks!

I got a bud that rides his Heritage all over the country 8 weeks a year. He's done a few "comfort" mods and is quite happy with it on long runs.

You went on a 3000+ mile trip and don't post any pics?

OK, so here is my favorite pic. Taken somewhere in the mountains in North Carolina. Wish I could be more specific about the location. Oh, and don't mind the Victory in the background, at least it's an American V-Twin. Sure is ugly though, lol.
