My '09 seems to be comfortable at around 70 in 6th. Anything over 75 feels like it's doing a bit of work. It has no problem getting to 90 though. I don't have the ***** to go much quicker. I'm usually around 70 when I'm on the highway...

I have Rush slip-ons and everything else stock.

My '08 likes to cruise at 85mph @ 3100 rpm in 6th gear all day long.

Hmmm... I'm thinking of getting the upgraded console, if I do I will try it and post results.
I believe that in order to tell how hard the engine is working you would have to compare the throttle position to the RPM/Speed ....

There is negligible difference in power loss through the drivetrain: the motor will still run at approximately the same RPM at a given speed ....

For example, suppose you maintain a steady speed of 60 MPH on a flat (horizontal) road ... then you go downhill (decline) ... then you go uphill (incline) ... maintaining speed under all three conditions ....

Your motor would still turn over the same RPM in all three instances (within a very small range); but, you would roll off the throttle grip when going downhill to maintain 60 MPH and add throttle to maintain 60 MPH when going up the hill ....

The tachometer will not tell you if "the engine is working harder" ....

* * *

Perhaps there is an engineer or physicist on the forum who can either further elucidate my assertion (or more likely utterly disprove it) ... LoL

My '98 EVO Heritage Softail likes 0-70mph. Anything more, feels like the bike wants to rattle apart. My Kawi Concours, loves 70-120mph. Anything less and it feels like it wants to tip over. The right tool for the right job. Know your limitations (rider & bike), to ride another day.

Cheers

Seldom use 6th because anything under 70mph feels like I'm lugging 6th gear. Personally I wish my 6 speed was geared differently where I could use that 6th gear OD for gas savings at 60+ instead.

+1 Except my bike's favorite speed has also become mine :-)

With the clutch pulled in, twist the throttle 'til the rev limiter cuts in. Try that once and i'll let you know how many available revs you are not using while riding. The power increases on my '06 FLSTCI with higher revs. You can find that sweet spot easily when you ride. I have a stage 1 breather and remap, along with V&H Straightshots, and that's it. Downshifting a gear or even two gives you the power and acceleration you need when passing. I guess what I'm saying is that though cruising at 80mph sounds like it's revving higher than normal, I've come to find that it is nowhere near what the bike is capable of, so you're bike's fine. Enjoy!

Just ride to your comfort level, be safe and alert. If I wanted nothing but speed I would have gotten a Hayabusa!

When my 04 FLSTCI had the stock computer with the stage 1 download, I did not feel comfortable above 70 and it felt like my fillings were going to be rattled out of my head. Now with the T-max tunes for highway speeds, I cruise between 85 and 90 like I used to feel at 55. In fact 55 is a bit odd feeling now. I've had mine into the triple digits but not far, just don't see the need to push it. Hell I know that at 80+ there is little chance of going down and surviving so why lesson that little chance?

I do agree with most of the rest that these bikes are cruisers, no need to push it but they will run the highway with the best of them.

I was told my scoot had stg1 done already .. how can i tell what has been done to the computer?

And what is the cost of doing what you had done? Or just give me exact terms so i can research it myself. Not wanting to do anything right now, but definitely would love to learn about it.

Thanks much!

Stage 1 has many different meanings. Really stage 1 is nothing more than a hi-flow intake.

It may or may not have the computer remapped. As most do not with a simple intake installation.

If you want to get more juice, best bet is to get a good tuner and find an Indy to do the dyno run.

I went with an intake, exhaust, and SE Super Tuner. Took it to an Indy who threw it on the dyno and remapped the computer thru the entire range. Got some decent numbers that will only get better when I go stage 2 or stage 3 with it.

You want more power....its there. But you have to have the pockets to want it.
