Im a new rider so im not pushing it hard at all, in fact i've only recently started even hitting the highways heh.
On my 04 flstci i sort of feel like she is comfortable going about 60-65 ... anything more is sorta pushing it.
Is it the lack of 6th thats doing it?
Not that i mind at all, again im new to riding and i really dont want to go very fast anyhow .. but i never thought a motorcycle would have trouble getting up to 80+mph
just thinking about it makes me shake hehe, but id like to know i can do it if i want to!! HA!
2004 FLSTCI with stg1 and pipes done. pipes are unknown as the last owner did them, i havent figured it out for sure yet.
Get'er up to about 60, downshift to 4th & give it hell. She'll do ninety no prob. Got mine
up to 110 a while back. Was on a downhill w/ a stiff tail wind.
Harley's are slow unless you make them fast. That being said, your bike will have no trouble going 75-80 all day. Just because it sounds like it might fall apart, doesn't mean it's going to.
The 6th gear is more of a cruising gear anyhow. I was out yesterday and hit the highway for a short stint. I was shifting from 5th to 6th somewhere around 90mph...
I have an 04 FLSTCI as well, with stage one, MY favorite speeds tend to be 60-65, but the bikes favorite seems to be around 80! It just feels much more responsive - and "on the pipe" (for you dirt bikers out there)
Just ride to your comfort level, be safe and alert. If I wanted nothing but speed I would have gotten a Hayabusa!
Well, I sure noticed a big difference with the 6 speeds. Especially speeds over 70.
As others said, you don't buy a Harley for speed but then, my bike goes a lot faster than I will ever need, hey, I'm an old guy and that's not why I bought her.
