Just a heads up post to check the cam tensioners. I saw a lot of threads on how the hydraulic cam tensioners last longer then the spring loaded tensioners and from my experience they do last longer but not 100k. My outer tensioner had worn down with what looked like chunks missing from within a deep shredded groove. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of it. I didn't see the secondary or get the chance to ask the tech what it looked like but from what I have read about this on the forum it probably worn out more. This repair cost me $686.00 to replace the 2 tensioners, gasket and change to adjustable push rods. I thought the tech was going to also replace a bearing but it is not on the invoice. The bike seams to run the same as before and hopefully good for another 48k. Not a cheap repair but far less then having to get the bottom end replaced.
The reason I had this checked out was because the noise that comes from this area was getting louder and a little different. The tech thought it would be better to make sure there wasn't a problem. Turned out there was.
thanks for the update on the chain tensioner, man, have you rolled the miles on the rocker!! my 08 has only 6500 miles, so i will check mine in about 10 years (lol)
really do appreciate the update info.

I can't believe the Dealer would replace the tensioners and re-use the old cam bearings. Check your invoice for a Cam Service Kit which has new bearings in it.

The part number 17045-99d is on the invoice as cam service gasket kit. Good to know the bearings were included in this kit. It cost 103.95
I'm at 56,000 miles and still running the original tensioner on the front and have 6,000 on the rear. Only reason I replaced the rear was I got new ones with a complete cam assembly for $50. I think some bikes just eat them, others last like the MoCo thought they would....
I still want to see pics of a newer tensioner that is "worn out". I don't trust dealer mechanics, especially when they don't show me the problem with hard evidence. Nothing personal here, but seeing as I have never ever heard of this happening with the newer style cam plate.
I know people with the same mileage on the newer style plate who have checked it and it looks brand new still. I just put the new style plate and tensioners in my 2002 a few weeks ago and am hoping i won't ever have to mess with it again.
