hey guys i just bought a new brass springer stablizer plate that goes on top of the springer front end (cross bones), was wondering if there is any tension on the springs or can i just take the two bolts off and replace the plate with my new brass one? also is there a certin torqe i need to tighten the bolts to or what? will post pics soon, thanks.
According to the manual, the acorn nuts should be tightened to 30 - 35 ft-lbs (40.7 - 47.5 Nm)
Manual not really clear if you need special tool to remove the spring bridge, but it looks to me you don't, as the springs are held in place with the upper spring bridge restraint (4). Would you want to remove the springs you will need the special tool (or make it yourself).

Just a note to look out for. I am making the assumption you bought that thick brass stabilizer. Its a great looking part for sure but it is quite a bit thicker that the piece that came from the factory (if one came at all). Its very possible that once you remove the top nuts and install the new brass stabilizer that you will have to tighten up the nuts on top of the rebound springs 2 or so turns. Otherwise you won't have enough exposed threads. You will want a similar amount of thread to tighten those acorn bolts to as you started with. If your really digging the brass look, you can also install brass acorns for added flash. At least I did that.

The bridge on the Crossbones is just held with the two nuts, it is not under any pressure, you can take it off while the bike it sitting on the ground.
