Default Still trying to mount lightbar

This is the second used lightbar that I'm trying to put on my Fat Boy with the same problem. In the pic, the top bolts are in and you can see that the cross bar is hitting the front cover. It would need to go back about 1/4" for the bottom bolts to go in. Do I still have the wrong lightbar? I cannot see anything else that is wrong. Frustrating.

Try the bottom bolts in part way first and see what happens.

Tried that. The headlight cover is keeping the cross bar from going back enough.

It's the wrong bar. In 2007 they changed the tins around the headlight from flat wrapped stainless to slightly bubbled out chrome. The part number for the newer bar has an A suffix (57852-02A). It looks like you have P/N 57852-02 which only fits through 2006. If your buying used (and don't know the part number) you'll need on from a 2007 or later bike.

Thanks...I wish I knew this before I bought the two bars that I have.

Daddy-O.....you are the man! Those 07 Fatboys are just..........different. Everything is unique about them, they look the same but everthing is just a little different! Evertime I work on something I find out that bolts too short, that hole pattern is off........couldn't get the drain plug out of my tranny this weekend using a 5/8 socket (called out in the manual) plug isn't centered so the socket hits the shock on the way out. Had to use the allen to get it out!

Thanks. I try to do all my own work and buy used parts when I can so I find out a lot of this stuff the hard way. A lot of the problems come from people who have new old stock parts. They have something made in 2005 that says "fits 2000 and later softails". Well, that was true in 2005 but not after 2007.

Light bar - yup, been there, done that. Bought a bar off an ultra for the lights. Gave up finding the bar for my bike used and bought it from zanotti for $88. The bar they sent was an obvious take-off (had mounting marks) so they gave me $30 off. Got my chrome hardware from allensfasteners.com. Converted my windshield for use with the lightbar.

Tranny drainplug - yup, been there done that too. I used a wobble extension and a 1/4" drive for the tranny plug. Once it's loose the allen wrench is easier (if you have the long ones).

Right now I've got a wobble around 40 mph. I'm figuring I gotta take off the light bar and headlight fork tins just to get at the stupid pinch bolts so I can tighten the steering bearings.

Nothing seems easy.

That's what I did Daddy-O...........broke the torque free with the 5/8 socket driver and then used a 6" ball nosed allen driver to reach the drain plug and get it to back out.........same thing going back in. Used the allen and then tightened it with the socket.

Oh yeah. I almost forgot. My rear brake light switch stopped working so I'll be replacing that too. It never ends but I'm not complaining, I get a lot of satisfaction out of it. Sometimes a lot of frustration too though.
