hey ... im returning from being overseas in 3 weeks and am looking forward to picking up my new bike. ill be returning to the DC area and would like to get a alarm put in but am wondering how hard it is to do yourself ? i can get all the parts for around 400$ (alarm / siren/ pager system/ fob) .....
the dealership wants to charge me 300 to install ... is it worth it ?
I'm fairly sure all you have to do is change the turn signal module with a turn signal security module. Thats plug and play. The siren is plug and play and I did that myself. Programing the fobs might be the tricky part, that I am not sure of how to do
I just installed one on by Deluxe last week. It's a simple plug and play. Just swap out the Turn Signal Module. The wiring is already there for the Siren and Paging unit as well. Both just snap into plastic molded brackets that are already there.
The more detailed part (which will take about 35 minutes), is to "mate the alarm to the bike" and then program your personal code. There are instruction on the Forum or PM me if you need them.
I couldn't afford the siren /paging module and pager receiver so I just installed a $6 102DB 12v siren from Radio shack. That mode is a piece of cake as well and dirt cheap!!!..
$300 for the install. All you would do is remove the lower two bolts from the plastic shield in front of the rear wheel (note the two clips in front of my shocks is were the plastic cover bolts go. After removing bolts you push cover up and it drops off a hook up at the top. Replace the turn signal module with the alarm/turn signal module and plug the alarm into the lower plug that you see being held in a notch between the two hooks you see just above my shocks. The next up white plug is the signal module that you switch out. (no siren in my bike, just alarm) I have my rear tire off but thats not necessary. The set up is spelled out. Just read it a dozen times before you do it and you will be fine. (if you have a 9-15 son/daughter or grand child like me its easier to let them do the setup.)
In Mexico for $300 they would send a guy looking for you so you would not need pager. However if that is a separate part do not know were it goes.
