I'll take one in Vivid Black as a second bike for sure. I would add a set of passing lamps to it.

horrible horrible year for new bikes.

only FX softail is a blackline? WTF? No springer? WTF?

If I HAD to buy, I'd go Dyna wideglide. MAYBE superglide.

But I never plan on owning anything but a springer. I'm lookin at buyin a badboy EVO.

Right. Here's the good news article -

"Harley-Davidson Stock Zooms 9% on Bike Sales
July 19, 2011

New York - Harley-Davidson pulled a wheelie on Wall Street today. Shares of the motorcycle giant shot up 9% Tuesday after it reported that U.S. bike sales rose on an annual basis for the first time in nearly five years. Shares closed at $45.11, up $3.70 on the day.

Dealers sold more than 53,000 new motorcycles in the U.S. during the second quarter, up 7.5% from a year ago and the first year-over-year quarterly rise since the fourth quarter of 2006. Global sales climbed almost 6% during the period.

The strong sales helped the Milwaukee-based company boost its second-quarter profit nearly 40% from a year earlier to $190.6 million, or 81 cents per share, as overall revenues rose 18% to $1.34 billion.

The results blew past Wall Street's expectations. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were looking for the company to earn 71 cents per share for the quarter, on revenue of $1.26 billion.

Harley-Davidson (HOG, Fortune 500) also lifted its guidance for the year. The company expects to ship up to 235,000 new motorcycles to distributors worldwide this year, up 12% from 2010. At the end of the first quarter, Harley's most optimistic forecast called for an 8% rise in shipments for the year."

The sales guy I bought my bike from used to be in service and was comparing the new 103s. He stated that they are putting the same cams in the 103s that were in the 96s due to emissions standards.

Most 2012 models look good to me, and am glad to see the 103 replace the 96. The new Fat Boy looks great, and has an ABS option. Wish they offered more colors, though. Only Vivid Black, Chrome Yellow, Midnight Pearl/Silver Pearl, and Tequila Sunrise/H-D Orange this year. How about Silver, Silver and Black, Silver and Blue, Two-Tone Blue, Gold and Blue, Blue and Blue-Green, and Dark Turquoise and Cream? I'd choose Vivid Black as a background and have a custom paint shop add blue and silver flames or graphics. Why force guys to go to custom paint shops? How about custom paint shops at the factories? We could tell them what we want.

The silver of the current Midnight Pearl/Silver Pearl looks more gray than silver. I'll have to see it at a dealer. Also, how about the option of custom pinstripes?

Congrats to Harley overall. Good improvements over the years, while maintaining the great personality, soul, and sound.

Sorry, but I'm glad, I hated that swoosh. I have been in the market for a new heritage, but basically sat the last model year out because I didn't see a color that got my attention. I've got my name on an order for a two-toned midnight pearl/sliver pearl. I've seen midnight pearl in a dealership, indoors. It's basically black with small blue metallic flakes. From a distance, it looks kind of like denim black. Up close, you see the blue flakes. I hope it will look even better outdoors. It may not sparkle like a merlot, but I expect some blue sparkle from the flakes. I'm not excited about any of the color options for 2012, but I can live with this combo, and I really don't want to sit another model year out, only get more ho-hum. MoCo really does need to do better.
