Retrofit Speedometer ?
I would really like to retrofit the 2006 and up (I think it was) speedometers with speedo/tach combination to my 2001 FXSTI Softail Standard--which only has speedo. Is this possible? What are the differences? Would the plug-in connector be the same?
I have the Service Manual with wiring diagrams for my 2001, so swapping pins wouldn't be an issue--but of course, I don't know the speedo terminals on a 2006 speedometer and up to connect properly IF there is a major difference. Are they marked/molded into the female module plug recepticle of the speedo? (I doubt it).
I've noticed Autometer now offering a 19466 Softail speedo/tach drop-in which looks really nice, but I don't think it'll fit under my Kurakyn 1522 dash insert panel, so that's out. Plus, the Autometer techs told me you have to cut and splice the connector harness plug for female spade connectors. They'll figure that out soon--they DON'T know Harley owners yet !

If you want an HD speedo/tach combination there is one that would work on a 2001 FXST. Here's the link: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

I'm doing kinda the same thing but I'm trying to put an 06 FLSTS speedo on my wifes 02 1200 sporty and can't seem to come up with wiring diagram for either one online, just a million other diagrams just need the to know what wires are used on each pin on the speedo and wire from the sporty too. hope I can here all your ideas
There is a direct fit for your bike. May be obsolete by now.
Here's one on ebay for about retail. There were some last week that were closer to $200.

I run this same speedo/tach on my 1998 softail but it has an adapter pig tail on it to fit older bikes.
