Hey fellas, listen I'm from the Dyna section but just this Tuesday my boy and I went riding and something odd happened to his 09' cross bones. He isn't a memb, er so I'm posting on his behalf...well while riding he developed the following symptoms.
1. Bike idled erratically causing the bike to pop, and sputtered.
2. We rode on then the bike just died. And wouldnt start up.
Note ... We push started just one time, then after that....no dice.
3 I rode to nearby motorcycle shop. And purchased a new battery and installed it.
4. The bike started, but none of his lights worked. No tail light, no brakes, no fog lights no ditectionals only his headlight which was really dim.
I checked his connections and all seemed kosher except fkr the main fuse. The red 40 amp fuse . She had aome corrlsion and burns indicating an arc. I cleaned her up reinstalled the fuse .
***** money is tight so dropping her off at the Stealers isn't an option.
So i offerd to help . So here iam. Asking for help.
besides no lights how did the bike run after the new batt? did it seem to keep a charge? check voltage regulator? i really am just taking shots in the dark here and wish i could help more.....good luck with finding out what the problem is, ill search a lil bit and see if i can find something with the little info you provided

She ran erratic, some backfire as if the plugs weren't getting any juice.
I didnt think to.check the actual main ground ..I dont know where it is on the crossbones. Mind telling me where. If its the same as. Dyna ill check it. like i aaod I can.work on stuff, I'm just not familiar with a soft tail .
Take off the seat, Check the cable that goes from the negative side of the Battery to the frame. un bolt it and get some steel wool or emery cloth and clean the chit of of it . then retighten. I would do the same to the hot side to starter connection also.
I hope you have better luck than I did but when mine ad the ce light and the batt light I needed a stator. I have no idea how you check them though.Good luck, Mike
