Default Help installing Fatcat 2:1 on Deluxe

I'm in the process of installing my fatcat on my bike, but I've run into a few problems I'm hoping you guys can help me with.

1. Should the pipe be tough to get into the gasket? There's no way I can push it in, so I'm guessing I just put the flange nuts on and start tightening?

2. In the first picture, do I need to remove the bracket that's bolted onto the tranny? It looks like it's in the way.

3. I'm at a loss as to how the muffler bolts on to the stock bracket in the second photo. If I used the original holes the muffler is going to be on a major angle, and if I don't I'll only be able to hold it by one bolt. WTF?

I bought the pipes used, so am I missing hardware?

That bracket in the pic is the stock bracket for the stock exhaust. The fatcat comes with its own bracket. It should be in the box. Remove teh stock bracket and bolt on the fatcat bracket.

Thighten the nuts down on the ehxaust flanges and teh head pipes will fall into palce.

Never did the FC's, BUT....

Its amazing what U can find on the internet if U do a search. Others have had a little prob with them getting all squared up. takes time to tweak just right.. Those are a great pipes.

DR, we must have typed above at the same time..

Reread the OP. he bought them used and sounds like he didnt get the Mounting Bracket.

Thought there were some in here that said to align real everything really good before tq all the bolts also..??

I would never force the pipes with the flanges, good way to really screw something up. Even if they tightened up U prob would have leaks.

yes both those brackets get removed you will need to contact D&D to get their mounting bracket if it didnt come with the unit and i believe it also came with a different size bolt for remounting the passenger foot peg you should also get that from D&D.

Oh man, I'm so pissed right now. The weather here is finally great and I've got my bike in pieces. I'm gonna have to call D&D tomorrow and see if they'll send some parts out quickly. God knows how much that's going to cost - I probably would have been better just getting a new set

I guess there's no way to use the stock bracket?

When you call D&D, for the bracket ask for a set of instructions also. It's been a few years since I put my Fat Cat on, so I don't recall everything.
The first thing you should do is assemble the pieces on the floor, to see how the muffler fits onto the pipes. When I did it, there was too much of a gap. The heat shields didn't cover the weld at the aft end. I loosened the clamps for the heat shields and used a rubber mallet to tap them about a 1/4" or more further aft. This covered the weld.
When you have the proper bracket, loosely attach everything onto the bike, then start tightening from the aft (muffler end ) and work forward. The instructions also show a certain torque for the bolt that clamps the muffler to the exhaust.
Here's a link to my writeup back when I installed the Fat Cat:

Just ordered the proper mounting kit from D&D. Now I've just got to decide to wait a week before I can ride or put the stock exhaust back on for the time being... Oh well, I guess it's an easy decision - off I go to put the stock setup back on the bike...

Glad you got it figured out and can at least ride for the time being. Hopefully the mounting kit wasn't too expensive.

Cool

I Just installed a used Fat Cat! One word of advice, get a helper to hold the pipe while you alternate tighting the flanges starting from front to rear untill just snug. At that point your hanger bracket should line up perfectly with the bolt holes on your pipe! Take your time and it will all fit together! Having a helper hold the pipe while you tighten the flange bolts is Key!!!
