Since a bald tire actually gets more traction, don't ride in the rain till you can replace it or it might hydraplane on you. IMO
Good advice on not riding in the rain; I crashed when it was just moist on the road.
As a tire gets older and balder, the composition is also getting harder and slicker. I wouldn't count on that old bald tire having much traction.
Let's say you change your tire too early by 10%, or less than $20. Compare that to how much it costs if you crash because you tried to squeeze a few more miles out of the tire.
I'm a cheap bastard and I can see that it's false economy to be cheap on tires. There's only a couple square inches of rubber keeping you safe.
It's weird I guess locking up the back tire for a good 60ft a month a go created uneven wear some of the wear bars have a few mm's of rubber before thier even while one spot is less then 2/32 before the second layer of rubber. Getting new tire tomorrow going to stay away from the back break whenever possible.
i change my tires at 10,000 miles im on my second set of donlops and they look real good at 9500 miles ill be installing new ones next week keeping a dunlop on the back and going to a metz 21 on the front. I had no problem getting 10,000 out of the dunlops
