Is there any documented disadvantages of running without baffles long term? I have my baffles in at the moment, but when the pipes were put on this past spring I had the baffles left out and loved the sound. I'm concidering having it dyno'd w/out the baffles but can't find any definitave documentation on the mechanical long term affects...if there are any. Thanks for any light you can shed. EDIT: I have the stage 1 air cleaner and PCV mapped for the setup with baffles installed.

The only issue I know of is that most bikes will produce a bit more low end torque with *some* kind of baffle in place.
I put Big City Thunder Monster baffles in my Warrior when I had it on straight drag pipes and they did a great job of giving me back most of the low end torque I lost, and they hardly changed the sound at all.

Yrs ago most common story was if U had really short pipes U could suck cold air back into the head and possible warp the Exhaust valve.
If Ur running an improved A/C with open pipes U for sure need to rejet of re-tune a FI.
Also most report a loss of TQ in the lower rpm's running without baffles.
If U run fishtails on Ur dual's they will act as baffles with helping with back pressure because of their design .
I ran mine without baffles for a week and it had all sorts of popping and sounded like a boat. I got some BCT baffles and it sounds great. Deep rumble and got back some low end power. At $80 they are over priced but they do give you a nice gray t shirt. At first I was like "wow a gray t shirt" but I guess it makes sense since how many black ones do we all own.
I have been running without baffles the entire time I have run fishtails which adds up to about 2.5 years. I have had no issues as a result of not running baffles. The baffle is in the pipe to create back pressure which creates torque and power and also to quiet the exhaust.
Anti reversion cones (power cones) will give you bottom end power and will still sound the same as open drags(no baffles) http://www.jpcycles.com/product/4400180
If you have fuel injection you need to check if they will work well. I've been running them since 94 and love them.

Yeah, for as much as I loveed my BCT monster baffles, next time I'll grab my pipe cutter, a washer, a section of threaded rod and make my own. Once I saw how simple the design was, I realized how easy it would be to make my own next time.
