Default Throttle Cable---broke

Out riding today and my throttle cable broke at the induction module. Thought this was odd seeing it's a 2010 Fatboy Lo with only 8200 miles. Questions I have are:
1) Do you need to remove the tank to change the cable (I had just filled up 10 miles prior)?
2) Do you usually change both cables or just the broken one?
3) Any tips??
Thanks

wow, 2010 that is unusual... just replace broken one (if it was me) and I think you can manuever if u just lift the tank....obvisousely it would be easier if the tank was removed..

Aren't you able to move the idle cable to the throttle cable position so you're temporarily sorted out? The idle cable is not really necessary for operation.

Yeah, I don't have an idle cable so here's to hoping Magnum Shielding makes some durable throttle cables....
