Rev it up in a lower gear. When it cuts off that's it. It's got a rev limiter. But I wouldn't do that on a bike that's not broken in.

The counterbalanced "B" motors have a lower rev limit then the "A"s...I think somewhere around 6500 or 7000 rpm. You'll know it when you hit it!

Rev limiter is set to 5800 rpm's. Stage 1 flash will increase it to 6200 rpm's. That's on all engines.

I am a little confused here. I have an '11 Lo with 6000 miles. I bought it used with 5200 on the clock. Always serviced by the dealer, previous owner installed the big sucker, a 2 into 1 pipe and had it dynoed. The service guys all knew the bike when I asked about it, saying it was a great bike that was set up well.

The last few days I have been wondering about max RPMs myself. Out riding tonite on a fairly deserted stretch of straight 6 lane, I opened her up. I had the speedo set to gear/tach to monitor the revs. I swear that when I got her to 3400 or 3500 in second, third and fourth gears it felt like it was gonna come apart, so I let off. I cannot possible imagine that she could turn anywhere near 5000.

Should I be concerned, take it in for a check? Or just spend time getting used to it and gradually push up the revs? I mean it really didnt feel good, but maybe I just am not used to the feel.

I don't know if I have an A or B motor.

Thanks
Michael

My EVO hits an uncomfortable vibration at ~3500 rpm. I have done a lot of vibration studies as an engineering tech over the years. It seems to be a harmonic resonance where the engine itself starts heavy vibs. Seems to be common. I regeared with a larger trans sprocket so it doesn't get over 3000 rpm at 70 mph. It does go away at 4000 and over. I sacrificed a little on launch acceleration and 50 mph roll on for comfort on the road. Never even noticed it on the drag strip.

You got the "B" motor ... Softails have the "B" motor since the Twin Cam 88 was released in 1999.

Don't think you have to fear it coming apart ... When they did the tune they must have run it up in the revs a couple of times.

Just give it a go.
